Press Release Summary: With Passion Quotient for alma mater peaking, for each one of them, Pilani is just not a destination at which one arrives but rather the spirit with which one undertakes and continues the journey.
Press Release Body: The alumni movement of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani located in the heart of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan has already seen the golden jubilee years. BITS Alumni Association (BITSAA) organizes each year close to Gandhi Jayanthi, the silver jubilee reunion of BITSians who passed out 25 years ago.
From the 77-82 batch (admissions 1977- Graduation 1982), an all time record breaking 118 BITSians from New Zealand to USA which included yet another record of 13 girls assembled at Pilani on 05th October 2007 evening for celebrating their silver jubilee reunion. Sun never sets on the British Empire may be an old saying but the new saying is that the Sun never sets on the BITS Pilani Alumni Map.
The gathering looked like a stellar constellation of Chairmen, Managing Directors, COOs, CEOs, CIOs, Scientists, Presidents and Vice Presidents, Techies, Entrepreneurs, Media Moghuls, Realtors as well as Consultants. Each one of them undoubtedly has been a leader in applying technology to improve lives across society.
Irrespective of whatever degree they did at Pilani, wherever they came from and whatever their life journey had taken them to, there was one thing they all shared in common and that was passion for the alma mater. Each one of them agreed that their stay at Pilani had left an indelible mark on their lives.
This batch like the other batches have indeed enhanced the reputation and raised the profile of BITS Pilani both nationally and internationally through their successes, contributions and support.
A pilot team of this batch which visited Pilani two weeks back to finalize the celebrations interacted with a local artisan and placed a huge order for fabricating the famed BITS Tower as a souvenir for each of their batchmates thus promoting rural entrepreneurship.
They went around the campus on 06 October 2007 and interacted with the Vice Chancellor and senior officers of the Institute. They gave career counseling and shared their professional expertise with the current students of BITS Pilani. They showed their warmth to the mess workers of BITS Pilani by distributing blankets to beat the cold of the biting winters.
In a colorful function held in the auditorium of the Institute, they remembered and honored the professors who cared, inspired, encouraged and challenged them during their student years. The performance by the music club and mime club of the institute mesmerized the entire gathering.
Institution building is on top of the agenda for the alumni and one of the 77-82 batch alum has given Rs. 75,000/- for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) mini Baja Car global competition in which current students of BITS Pilani are participating. The batch has come forward in a big way for a BITS Affinity project as a follow-up on the rupees eight crores BITS Connect Project to promote Research in cutting edge technologies and pledged a seed money of Rupees six lakhs instantly.
For BITSians, BITS Pilani is a place to be remembered forever.
